Yesterday, I took a hike through Malibu Creek State Park, one of the hard hit areas from the Woolsey Fire this past November. I wanted to enjoy the beautifully clear day, get some ocean views, and get some contrasting views of the burnt landscape throughout the area. It was beautiful in a way, even with the obvious signs of destruction.

Some areas were a stark contrast between burnt remnants of trees on one side of the hill and lush greenery on the other. The new growth was already coming in strong, showing that life was not entirely lost here and that nature was finding a way.

Truly a beautiful day and I had the whole trail to myself to take in the sights and serenity of the mountains. It was a moderate 10 mile hike in total with about 2500 feet of elevation c hange, starting at about 300 feet ASL at the bottom.

Always amazing to see how well the greenery can come back after fire.

Lovely - I’ve hiked there too, but it was a couple of years ago. Nice to see nature starting to come back quickly - as it usually does.

From what I've read, the wildfire areas should result in a super bloom of flowers this spring since the fire apparently germinates seeds or something like that. But it will depend on the weather and so I'll have to wait and see.

I found my photos from the last time I did this hike in Summer 2018. I didn’t really capture any of the exact same views but it was definitely very different looking then.

This previous photo shows the same rocks as the next photo on the left.  Quite a bit of greenery missing!

The stretch between the 33 and Carp on the 101 was shockingly green. You actually had to really look for burn scars. But then the Thomas Fire was over a year ago.

It also didn’t really burn that bad down there. If you really wanna see scars from the Thomas fire, gotta head up the 150 to 33. There’s a lake area in there that looks like a nuclear bomb went off or something just because the entire area is burned out trees. But yeah super green.

Find any of the snow in SLO?

Oh that’s a good idea. I’ve never actually driven up the 150, only biked up it.

Nope, no snow, it's cold as shit here. But I've been inside all morning in climate control. I checked the camera at home, though, and it didn't seem thay cold since there wasn't any ice on the car this morning.

Ehh it's sunny out, it'll warm up. It's like 50 right now so it's quite comfortable out!

bushfires seem to help the forests regenerate.
